‘It’s an insult’: Indigenous community vote to ban Welcome to Country ceremonies
An indigenous community in North Queensland have voted to ban Welcome to Countries on their ancestral land last week because the “ceremonies are embarrassing”.
Spokesperson for the Juru people Randall Ross joined 3AW Mornings to discuss the group’s decision to ban the ceremonies.
“Our Welcome to Countries are being not only overused but misused for the wrong purpose,” Ross said on 3AW Mornings.

“We still have people that aren’t connected to the country, performing those particular Welcome to Countries.”
