Tom Elliott has warned the day of reckoning for Victoria’s economy is coming with the cost of gas to have the biggest price increase in the country as a shortage looms.

The Mornings host noted families won’t be the only ones impacted by the price increase as the industry sector heavily relies on gas.

“When the price of gas goes up, it’s not just your hot water bill that looks a bit more painful, or make you think twice about turning on the gas-powered barbeque, it’s actually going to make a whole range of things more expensive,” he said.

Director of Climate Change and Energy at the Australian Industry Group Tennant Reed says the incoming price increase won’t be as high as the last major increase back in 2022.

“But it’s not like they’re good, they are putting businesses and households under immense pressure,” he said.
