Why Metro Tunnel is facing further delays after parliamentary revelations
There are fears the $15 billion Metro Tunnel’s opening could be delayed until 2026 as a result of delays to the completion of five new stations.
As revealed in parliament documents on Thursday, the new stations are expected to be handed over to transport authorities 12 months later than scheduled.

“When it comes to the government, it’s a free for all and there’s no penalty.”
Shadow Minister for Major Projects and Transport Infrastructure David Southwick said he was concerned the government could potentially compromise safety by rushing through the opening date of the tunnel.
