A senior constable from Victoria Police has described the horrific and violent encounter he had with an offender earlier in the year.

Josh called into 3AW Drive to tell the full story, describing how he had his eye gouged and ACL ruptured in the violent clash.

“I had to check that my eye was still there because I couldn’t see out of it and I thought I had lost it,” Josh told Jacqui Felgate.

The senior constable said the perpetrator was taken into custody by police, but granted bail a short time later, and then allegedly attacked two more of his colleagues in similar fashion one month later.

“That is appalling,” the 3AW Drive host said.

Former Victorian Chief Magistrate, Nick Papas KC, then explained the bail laws after hearing of the horror assault on the police officer.

“It’s very, very difficult for people to feel confidence in the justice system,” he told Jacqui Felgate.
