Winter roadwork blitz: Long traffic delays ahead
A 16-day winter construction blitz will fast-track multiple road and rail projects across the state, taking advantage of the school holidays.
As pictured above, crews have already started shovelling chunks of concrete at the St Kilda and Toorak roads intersection.
It’s part of work on new tram tracks and two new stops on Toorak Road, allowing the route 58 to operate during the Metro Rail Tunnel’s construction.
It is just one of around 30 road and rail projects to be fast-forwarded over a period of more than two weeks.
Premier Daniel Andrew says motorists and commuters should brace for delays.
“We ask people to be aware of their circumstances and be aware of this very big program of works,” he said.
The works commences June 30, continuing to July 24.
There is a variety of work scheduled including V/Line track works on the Ballarat line, level crossing removals, upgrades on the Ring Road, as well as the Monash and Tullamarine freeways.
