Why the AFL Draft has ‘lost a bit of excitement’ in recent years
Matthew Lloyd thinks modern-day drafts have lost their excitement because of how compromised they’ve become.
The rise of father-son and academy selections sees the draft order change as clubs bid on players tied to their respective clubs.
Lloyd said the lack of ‘live’ picks meant the surprise element of the draft night was now diminished.

“I think the draft has lost a bit of excitement because there just isn’t enough live picks,” he said on 3AW.
“Next year’s draft even, it’s full of academy picks.”
