Flight Centre CEO Graham Turner says flight prices increasing in Australia is more a supply and demand issue than a general uplift around major events.

Qantas has recently blamed Coldplay’s sell out dates in Melbourne and Sydney for a sharp surge in airfares, with Rex Airlines scaling back their operations also a significant factor in some flight routes doubling in price.

But Mr Turner told Ross and Russ the issue was more nuanced than simply blaming sell out concerts and other big events.

“There’s a lot of reasons why airfares have been more expensive for certain period of times,

“But largely it’s a supply and demand thing.”
