Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was lucky to escaped unharmed after falling through a stage trap door during a concert at Marvel Stadium on Sunday night.

The crowd were shocked when he walked backwards – unaware the door was open – and fell down, before a crew member caught him and lifted him back on stage.

“We’re lucky we’re not talking about Chris Martin at the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition this morning,” he said on 3AW Breakfast.

“It could have been a hell of a lot worse…it could have had very serious consequences.”
