Melbourne Demons player Joel Smith was hit with a four-year ban on Thursday, after testing positive to cocaine on matchday and alleged drug trafficking.

Wide World of Sports host Shane McInnes believes Smith’s drug ban “must be a permanent warning to the AFL”.

“This needs to be the moment, the AFL says enough is enough and strengthens its own illicit drugs policy,” McInnes said on Wide World of Sports.
