Federal housing minister Clare O’Neil has come out swinging against those protesting recent announcements over housing in Victoria, saying it was crucial the next generation could aspire to buy a house.

The State Government recently announced reforms to tackle the current housing crisis, pledging to build new high-rise apartment towers near train stations.

Joining Tom Elliott in the studio, Ms O’Neil said residents can’t both complain about housing shortages and then protest high-rise towers being built in their local areas.

“We can’t all sit around and complain about a housing crisis and then hit the streets and protest when there’s anything that may affect our suburbs,” she said on 3AW Mornings.

“I like in Oakleigh…I want my children to be able to buy a house one day.”
