Australia’s domestic football competition is back for a 20th season, but Tony Jones still thinks it is “bordering on irrelevant” and has plenty of work to do to recapture attention.

The Nine News sports presenter says while he wants to see the league succeed, there would be people who would be hesitant to attend games due to a perceived “edge” with fan violence at venues.

“(The league) has fallen apart and it is bordering on irrelevant,” he told Tom Elliott.

“The problem – and this is not the media’s fault – but it seems there’s trouble and when there’s trouble, it does get reported.”
