Lord mayor Anthony Koutoufides has pledged to introduce safe zones with extra police in the city to help make it safer if he’s elected in October.

The former Carlton footballer turned lord mayor candidate told Jacqui Felgate it was imperative more was done to lure people back into the CBD.

“We want to introduce these hubs of policeman guarding these hotspot areas in the city,” he said on 3AW Drive.

“So if you feel a little bit threatened, you can go to these areas to be picked up. It’s a little bit like a lifeguard at the beach.”
