Newport ram raid ends in West Gate crash
Three people have been arrested after a vehicle linked to a ram raid in Newport crashed on the West Gate Freeway this morning.
Police say the ram raid at the Challis Street grocery store happened about 3am.
They stole cigarettes and alcohol before fleeing the scene and splitting into another car.
A white Commodore thought to be involved in the ram raid was found after it crashed near the Melbourne Road exit on the West Gate Freeway, prompting lane closures.
Three men have been arrested in St Albans and are assisting police with their enquiries.

One man has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
All lanes of the West Gate are now open but traffic delays remain.
