While the price of travelling internationally is decreasing as competition increases, the cost of taking a trip interstate is on the rise.

Since Rex Airlines went into administration and their flights between major capital cities were grounded, competitors Virgin, Qantas and Jetstar have taken the opportunity to hike the price of their fares, according to new data.

Travel Agents Federation CEO Dean Long told Shane McInnes he is disappointed to see other airlines cashing in on the demise of Rex.

“When we started to look at the data there were some interesting pricing being put out,” he said on 3AW Drive.
