AFL legend Leigh Matthews says it’s time for the team who finishes on top of the ladder to be rewarded even further.

He is proposing two key changes, which would hand the side who finishes 1st an even greater advantage for the biggest games of the season.

“In our system we have 23 games to get a starting eight (teams for finals),” he said on Wide World of Sports.

“The achievement of finishing top of the ladder is a bigger achievement that getting into the eight and having a few good weeks in September.”
