Leigh Matthews says AFL is ‘impossible to umpire’, blames Andrew Dillon for current mess
Leigh Matthews says modern day footy is “impossible to umpire”, laying the blame squarly on CEO Andrew Dillon for the current discussion around contentious umpiring decisions.
After Dillon said umpiring standards in the game have never been better, Matthews told Wide World of Sports the different interpretation on certain rules is making the game extremely hard to officiate.

“I blame Andrew Dillon and the hierarchy at the AFL that have allowed this trend to take place over a lot of years,” Leigh Matthews said on 3AW.
“There’s so many ifs, buts and maybes before umpires make calls. We have made the game impossible to umpire.”
