New research out of one university is suggesting an outright ban on social media could do more harm than good for tweens.

The study from the University of South Australia led Heidi Murphy to wonder whether kids aged between 8 and 12 are capable of self-regulating their screen time.

Leader researcher Professor Sue Nichols told 3AW Drive her work with children led her to believe tweens were worried about their privacy when it came to how they use social media.

“The things they’re concerned about are their privacy.”
