Why Melbourne young gun prefers to play footy at Optus Stadium over MCG
Melbourne young gun Trent Rivers says playing in the club’s Grand Final win in 2021 was made even more special by the unique nature in which it took place.
Rivers grew up in Western Australia, with the pandemic seeing the 2021 decider shifted from the MCG to Perth’s Optus Stadium.
The 22-year-old, who has become a consistent part of Melbourne’s best side, told 3AW Football’s Saturday Sit Down “making people around me happy” was the reason he plays footy.

“To me playing in Perth tops playing at the MCG in front of 100,000,” he said on 3AW.
“You pick reasons to play football and mine is to make the people around me happy. To just know they were in the crowd to enjoy all the experiences with me, I’ll never forget (the 2021 Grand Final).”
