Almost half of Australian teachers unqualified to teach mathematics
New data suggests that 40 per cent of Australian teachers are unqualified to teach mathematics.
Director of the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute at the University of Melbourne, Professor Tim Martin told 3AW Mornings “the supply of maths graduates is dropping”.
“The teaching profession is failing to attract enough undergraduates willing to become teachers,” he said on 3AW.
