A man has been charged over a one punch attack outside Box Hill Hospital, which has left a surgeon fighting for life.

The 22-year-old Mill Park man has been charged with intentionally cause serious injury.

He is expected to face court on Thursday.

Following the assault on Wedensday, Acting Health Minister Martin Foley has set up a meeting today with leaders at Box Hill Hospital to discuss whether further measures are needed to protect hospital staff.
