A lawyer reveals why he thinks the West Gate protesters may not see jail
Police have charged three people after they allegedly blocked inbound traffic on the West Gate Bridge this morning resulting in major delays.
National Criminal Justice Spokesman for the Australian Lawyers Alliance, Greg Barns SC, says the laws around protests are designed to deter protesters from being encouraged.
“Would a [five-year prison sentence] curtail other people … it tends not to deter, in the case of some people, they become heroes for being imprisoned,” he told Jacqui Felgate.
