There are increased concerns over a planned raising of the age of criminal responsibility to 14, following the news a 13-year-old had been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a woman late last year.

Victoria Police Union secretary, Wayne Gatt, says while the discussion of raising the age of criminal responsibility is a “legitimate” one.

“The reality is, in Victoria, we know from the age of 12 and above, the frequency of offending and the severity of offending increases exponentially,” he told Tom Elliott.
