New e-scooter warnings issued as nearly 1,000 Victorians land up in emergency departments
Victorians are once again being urged to use helmets while riding e-scooters, after it was revealed almost 1,000 people landed up in emergency departments around the state as a result of crash-related injuries.
E-scooters have become a popular way of commuting around central Melbourne, but emergency physician Dr Sarah Whitelaw has warmed the majority of serious crash injuries she’s seen involved people who weren’t wearing helmets while riding.

“Most of the people we’re seeing with significant injuries in the emergency department aren’t wearing helmets,” she told Tony Moclair on 3AW Afternoons.
“We know that helmets protect your brain…not wearing one has really significant consequences.”
