State government called out over second public transport fare hike in six months
Shane McInnes can’t understand why Victoria’s public transport fees are rising again in the new year.
A daily weekday fare will jump to $10.60 in 2024, up from $9.20 in just six months and comes after the state government 12 months ago opted to freeze the cost of using the state’s trains, trams and bus system.
“What am I paying extra for exactly,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

“Trains are still filthy, delays are still far too regular and frequency of services is still far below where it should be in comparison to other cities around the world.”
