Stonnington council retracts on ‘make merry’ decorations + blames debacle on former CEO
Stonnington Council mayor, Joe Gianfriddo, has apologised to the community for festive decorations depicting “make merry”.
He says the festive decorations were an administrative decision made by a previous chief executive officer.
“Those decorations you see up, they actually were also up last year, and obviously this year, they’ve offended a lot of people,” he told Tony Moclair.

Stonnington Council councillor, Marcia Griffin, revealed she had addressed the festive decorations at various council meetings.
She also says councillors will be running around the council area with stickers to fix the decorations.
“I’ve had so many emails, so many people commenting to me on this, it’s really embarrassing, it’s not the mayors fault, he’s only been here for a few weeks,” she said.
