The findings into the suicide of former AFL player Shane Tuck, who had CTE at the time he passed away, were handed down by Victorian state coroner, John Cain, yesterday.

Concussion researcher at La Trobe University, Professor Alan Pearce, says it’s important to remember CTE is not linked to concussions, but to repeated head trauma.

“It’s been traditional to try and smash each other up and we just can’t afford that anymore,” he told Wide World of Sports.

He also says a lot of progress has been made.

“Unfortunately it has been due to the untimely deaths of Danny Frawley, Shane Tuck, Heather Anderson … it’s good to see the AFL … are now taking this injury far more seriously,” he said.
