GAME DAY: St Kilda v Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium | 3AW Radio

Sportsday

Gun St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross spoke to 3AW on Saturday afternoon.

Ross was awarded the maximum five votes, which propelled him to the top of the leaderboard alongside Clayton Oliver and Rory Sloane.

He said he’s focussed on winning contested ball over the off-season.

‘I went away from it a little last year so it was something I’ve worked on,’ Ross said.

Saints rebounder Dylan Roberton is in All-Australian form.

He told 3AW having Nathan Brown and Jake Carlisle in the backline have given him freedom.

‘They’ve been massive,’ Roberton said.

‘Myself and Gilbo (Sam Gilbert) are matching up with who we feel more comfortable with, so we’re able to play a bit higher.

‘If we’re lucky enough we can help the ball going the other way.’

FULL TIME

St Kilda has won by 23 points on the back of a six-goal final term.

Jade Gresham booted three goals in the second half, while Blake Acres was influential early in the final quarter with two vital goals.

Jack Billings and Jack Steven were four-quarter performers for the Saints.

Matthew Lloyd said the Saints answered a big question tonight.

‘They needed a big scalp,’ Lloydy said.

‘We all knew they were a side on the rise, but would they beat a top-four side?

‘They’ve done that here tonight.’

HALF TIME

GWS leads by five points, but they have some injury concerns.

Adam Kennedy appears to have suffered a serious knee injury, and Nathan Wilson is having a concussion test.

Jack Billings had a ripping half for the Saints kicking two goals, laying five tackles, and winning 13 possessions.

Matthew Lloyd said the Saints’ pressure has been particularly good.

‘The Giants have only taken 28 marks for the half,’ Lloydy said.

‘That’s full credit to the pressure of St Kilda.’

Lloyd said Nick Riewoldt has been surprisingly quiet, which Doc Larkins said is down to a lingering knee injury.

Concerns are growing for GWS backman Adam Kennedy.

Kennedy appeared to injure a knee after an awkward landing.

Doc Larkins said it’s a ACL until proven otherwise.

Reports some Giants players will stay in Melbourne over the weekend have sparked interest in the movement of out-of-contract midfielder Josh Kelly.

GWS football manager Wayne Campbell told 3AW Football he would be ‘disappointed’ if Kelly talks to North Melbourne.

‘There are no rules around it, but there might be a moral code.’

Friday night football is becoming a regular feature for the Giants, and they kick off Round 7 against the Saints at Etihad Stadium.

Jonathon Patton will be hoping for a bag of goals to fill the void left by the suspended Toby Greene.

In their path is a St Kilda side pushing for finals after thumping the Hawks in Tassie last week.

But are they the real deal?
