Police are extending operation Roadwise for an extra week as Victoria’s road toll reaches a 15-year high, with three dying overnight.

Assistant Commissioner of Road Policing, Glenn Weir says one person is still in critical condition after multiple crashes on the Western Highway near Myrniong.

“The fog yesterday, in that part of the world was really thick … people didn’t drive to the conditions, they didn’t slow down,” he told Heidi Murphy.

He also slammed people who drink before getting behind the wheel and urged people to find a way home without needing to drive if they’ve had something to drink.

“Seriously, why would you put yourself at risk? … We know people love Christmas, love partying at this time of year,  but why put yourself at risk?” he said.
