Tom Elliott says teachers being urged to take a pro-Palestinian stance in the classroom makes no sense.

Education Minister Ben Carroll slammed the proposal on Monday afternoon, which urges teachers to reach out to Palestinian advocates and wear the traditional keffiyeh garment to show solidarity.

Tom isn’t happy with the plan, saying it went against basic teaching principles.

“I couldn’t be more against this if I tried,” he said on 3AW Drive.

“The job of teachers not to tell children what to think, it is to teach them how to think. This week of solidarity with Palestine is the opposite.

“I think schools are turning into bastions of indoctrination rather than centres of education.”
