A Melbourne school has controversially scrapped Mother’s Day celebrations this year.

3AW Mornings was alerted to the Moonee Ponds West primary school newsletter, which said the annual ‘Mother’s Day stall’ would not be held.

The school will celebrate International Day of Families instead.

‘I believe celebrating International Day of Families is a more inclusive way of celebrating the richness, diversity and complexity of living and loving as a family in the modern world,’ the school’s principal said in the letter.
