Victoria’s new container deposit scheme has been operational for almost two weeks, but teething problems continue to fester.

Callers to Neil Mitchell continued to report various issues on Monday, as the state government continues to educate residents on the scheme, which promotes a 10c refund per can.

Werribee resident Mark Fenton said he was surprised to see his local deposit machine closed on the weekend, as well as it using an environmentally unfriendly diesel generator.

“I went for a walk (on Saturday) and (our local machine) was closed,” he told Neil Mitchell on 3AW Mornings.

“The thing that struck me was that it has a big generator sitting next to it which is gurgling away and then about three metres away is a Tesla (electric vehicle) re-charging site.”
