How pop-up sobering up centres will be used on Melbourne Cup day
Several pop-up sobering up vans will be available for those attending the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on Tuesday after delays to the opening of the permanent centre in Collingwood.
According to Deputy Chief Executive of coHeath Christopher Turner, they will be used for those people deemed “potentially at risk” of public drunkeness.
“The mobile services are outreach services,” he told Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.

“The purposes of those (services) is to connect with people who are potentially at risk, but the majority of our connections will be people outside of the facility. The aim for those services is to help them identify if they are any risks to the community and then support them to get to a place of safety.”
