Hay fever sufferers have been warned to be prepared for extreme levels of pollen across the state for the next few days.

Senior meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology, Miriam Bradbury, says there’s also a risk of showers and storms for tomorrow’s Melbourne Cup.

“I know the question [on] everyone’s mind is thunderstorm asthma … we are currently forecasting a moderate chance,” she told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
