Music historian and history editor of The Australian, Alan Howe, has reacted to the new The Beatles song.

He says it’s “invested with emotion” but it’s not a “lost masterpiece.”

“It’s a very good song … by and large, masterpieces don’t get lost, but it’s a very good song,” he told Neil Mitchell.

He also says it’s interesting the final song has resulted in the Beatles career being bookended by John Lennon.

“John Lennon was the driving force, it was his band,” he says.
