If you’ve ever been depressed on your birthday, or know someone who has been, there could be a psychological reason for it.

Clinical psychologist and president of the Institute of Clinical Psychologists, Dr Marjorie Collins says birthday depression is “surprisingly common.”

“Birthdays are actually signal events, they’re sort of thoughts where we think, okay, it’s a day where we can reflect on how we’re going, how our life’s going, will people actually remember us?” she told Tom Elliott.
