Funding plea to stay afloat
The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard are disappointed after failing to receive funding in this month’s State Budget.
This comes as organisations such as the State Emergency Service receive millions from the government.
Mark Bainbridge, Victorian Squadron Commodore of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard says the sector needs help.
“At the moment we are after $5 million to run the whole sector, which will cover our operational costs as far as fuel, maintenance and training,” Mr. Bainbridge told 3AW Breakfast.
“The government did come through and cover our insurance cost last year, about $180,000.
“Now they seem to have dropped the ball.”
