Jacinta Allan knew of Commonwealth Games cost blowout months before cancellation, inquiry hears
Jacinta Allan was warned there were “substantial” cost pressures on the 2026 Commonwealth Games four months before the event was cancelled, a parliamentary inquiry into the event has been told.
Secretary of the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, Tim Ada, told the inquiry he informed Ms Allan — who was Minister for Commonwealth Games Delivery at the time — the cost of the Games had almost doubled in early March.
But on June 13, Ms Allan told the public accounts an estimates committee “tremendous progress” was being made on the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The cancellation of the Commonwealth Games was announced on July 18.
