The Australian link to the world’s oldest fish
A Californian aquarium believes it might have the oldest fish in the world with it being transported to the United States in the 1930’s from Australia.
Director of animal care at the Steinhart Aquarium of the California Academy of Sciences, Brenda Melton, says the lungfish named Methuselah was part of a trial which estimated the age of lungfish around the United States and Australia.
“Two Australian scientists are the ones who are doing this cutting-edge DNA work using fish fin clips … through this process to estimate age and using this new technique that they developed,” she told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
