Experts from Melbourne University have concerns that fumes emitted from cars idling during school hours may pose a health hazard to children.

Car mechanic at AutoPlus Robert Hodge says the risk is minimal in modern cars and is lessened by short drop-off and pick-up times.

“It’s more of an issue for older cars or cars that aren’t properly maintained,” he said.
