Concerns have been raised about the safety of Chapel Street following the assaults of retired North Melbourne player Jack Ziebell and another man over the weekend.

Prahran resident and small business owner, Alexandra Petrovic Defteros, says the area is “out of control.”

“Over the last year where new nightclubs have been opening, it’s just 24/7 down here with violence, people defecating and urinating in the street … And no one seems to be listening to our complaints, the council just ignore it repeatedly,”  she told Neil Mitchell.

The father of a young man who was assaulted on Chapel Street, 300 metres away from where Jack Ziebell was assaulted, says his son is still shaken up after he was punched unconscious.

Tom says his son was leaving a night club with his friends after stopping an altercation when he was attacked.

“My son held up his hands saying, ‘We don’t want any problems, we just want to finish the night on a high, let’s all just go home.’ This guy was … in agreeance with it, went to shake my son’s hand, pulled him in close and sucker punched him,” he told Neil Mitchell.
