A Melbourne plumbing business will work for free on September 1 to help people in need.

Sven Roelofs from Sven’s Plumbing says he “probably should have done something like this sooner”.

“I didn’t realise … there’s some people in some real dire situations out there and you just don’t know about it,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“I’ve got an old lady who’s got cancer and she hasn’t had hot water for two months because she can’t afford it.”
