A driver has escaped uninjured after a car burst into flames on the West Gate Bridge, sparking traffic chaos.

It comes with footy fans trying to make the trek over the bridge in both directions, with Collingwood and Hawthorn about to face off at the MCG and Geelong hosting Port Adelaide at GMHBA Stadium.

“It was bedlam,” 3AW’s Shane McInnes said.
