Plans by the Andrews government dating back to the 2018 election to duplicate train lines out to Melton and Wyndham Vale have been watered down.

Documents seen by The Age reveal the government is considering scrapping plans to duplicate lines as part of the electrification of the rail corridors to Melton and Wyndham Vale.

Age Transport Reporter, Patrick Hatch, claims passengers in the outer-west “won’t be able to get train services anywhere near as frequently as they would’ve otherwise” due to the backflip from the state government.

Mr Hatch says Metro trains will still so go out on the line, but will still share the same line as V/Line trains and only run every 20 minutes.

The Andrews government denies suggestions it’s looking to axe two new rail lines promised in the 2018 election.
