Fears UK visa change will worsen Australia’s tradie shortage
The United Kingdom is easing visa rules for some foreign tradespeople, and there’s concern it’ll worsen Australia’s tradie shortage.
Under the changes, bricklayers, carpenters and plasterers will be eligible for lower visa application fees and will be able to work at 80 per cent pay while waiting for skilled worker visas to be processed.
CEO of Master Builders Australia, Denita Wawn, says Australia has “got to stay internationally competitive in terms of … skilled migration”.
