Former Queensland Premier and Chairman of the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Peter Beattie, has spoken on how preparations went for the Games up north.

It comes after the Victorian government withdrew from hosting the 2026 Games yesterday, with Mr Beattie claiming he had a “tough requirement from the Queensland government” in the lead up to the 2018 Games.

He also admitted it could cost a “lot more” to host the Games in regional cities like Victoria intended to.
