AFL considering the introduction of a ‘wildcard round’
The AFL will ask the 18 club chief executives today whether it supports the introduction of a “wildcard round” which in turn would expand the finals series.
Using the pre-finals bye weekend, the AFL could hold two wildcard finals, where 7th plays 10th and 8th plays 9th for the last two spots in the eight, similar to the NBA and NFL.
Western Bulldogs forward Anthony Scott thinks “commercially it sounds really good” for the fans, but questions whether the players would be on board with the idea.
