Essays arguing for and against the Indigenous Voice will soon be released by the Electoral Commission.

Supporters of the advisory body say it should be enshrined in the constitution to improve life for First Nations people, while the “no” case warns of legal risks, division and a lack of detail.

Independent federal member for Goldstein, Zoe Daniel, who supports the ‘yes’ vote, says “it’s important that people do take a considered look” at the cases made by both sides.

“I understand people’s concern or inhibitions about voting for something where they’re not entirely clear what the shape of it might be but I think the first piece of it is recognition — Indigenous people are not recognised in our constitution, that is a huge gap,” she told Neil Mitchell.

“This opportunity is not going to come up again.”
