Psychologists are warning ADHD assessments are being rushed over telehealth, increasing the risk of misdiagnosis.

ADHD diagnoses are rising, with 511, 330 people last year prescribed drugs to treat the disorder.

Chair of ADHD Australia, Professor Michael Kohn, says telehealth is “a good way to … start” the ADHD diagnosis process, but there needs to be follow up.

“A comprehensive assessment is needed, looking not just at whether they’ve got the symptoms of ADHD but whether they’ve got other co-occurring conditions, and looking at what their situation is to see what’s the best way of supporting them,” he told Ross and Russel.
