New data has revealed more Australians are living longer, but the maximum age has grown at a much slower rate.

The average lifespan has increased by 12 months, every four years since the start of the 20th century.

Deputy Director of the Australian Research Centre for Human Evolution, Julian Lewis, says it appears we’ve reached our biological peak.
