The head of Victoria’s Health Department has flagged $50 million in cuts to health spending and the slashing of more than 300 public service jobs in a leaked video published by the Herald Sun.

The Andrews government is understood to be setting up a new health finance board to make the cuts.

But emergency physician and former Australian Medical Association vice president, Dr Stephen Parnis, says there’s little that can be cut in the overwhelmed health system.

“There’s the odd program that was introduced during the pandemic that can go,” he told Neil Mitchell. “But there’s a lot of stuff that cannot be cut and I do worry if those things do have their finances removed.”
